Artist Statment
I am in awe of the beauty that surrounds me every day. My art is an emotional expression of this beauty. While I am creating my art, I find that I work on a much more personal level than I realize. The lily that spoke to me in my garden now becomes a visual statement. The lily, while symbolic in and of itself, subconsciously communicates a feeling or sentiment that I didn't know I was thinking about. Sometimes the artwork transforms onto another level and become an awareness beyond the imagery. Whether you are drawn to the ideas behind each piece or find some of the pieces striking, I hope you enjoy viewing my artwork.

Bio
When I was a little girl, my passion in life was drawing the bird figurines in my grandmother's living room. She painted molded ceramics and I loved going to her house because she was such a source of encouragement for me. From that experience, I knew that art would have a dominant impact in my life. I attended the University of Buffalo and received a BFA in fine arts studying under Brian Hoover, Stephanie Rose, Duane Hanson, and Sheldon Berlin. Brian Hoover's drip paintings still inspire me today. After graduation, I hit the art show circuit and won several awards. I then went back to school to receive my art teaching certification from Buffalo State College and a Masters in liberal studies from Stony Brook. Two beautiful children and a full time job as an art teacher didn't leave much room for creating. Eventually, when both kids were in school, opportunities began opening up and my art production ramped up again. This year, my husband built a studio for me in our house - it is a truly wonderful space to work in. After experimenting with many different media, I am happy to say that I have returned to oil painting and am so grateful to have rediscovered the joy in filling a blank canvas. I feel blessed and rejuvenated incorporating art into my own personal life.
